Artist Seong Young-Eun
of And-et introduced tufting techniques in Korea for the first time.
Hello, I am artist Seong Young-Eun, working on tufting at And-et Workshop in Paju. I went to the Tufting Workshop at 2019 LA Hawthorne Arts Complex, and introduced tufting techniques in Korea for the first time.
Tufting, which is receiving a lot of attention lately, allows various diverse kinds of work using soft fabric and speedy machines, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. If you had wanted to learn tufting but did not know how to start, please join our classes and start with me.
Six kinds of tufting accessories in different sizes;
a curriculum to develop your skills step-by-step
We prepared six types of works for you to try yourself. The techniques used in every work are different and diverse. By making the six different products by following my curriculum, you will eventually acquire various techniques and know-how of tufting.
We shall start with a rug, and the first thing that comes to mind when you think of tufting. You will get used to shooting a wide area in straight lines by making a mini rug of 30*40cm.
For those of you who have a lot to think about before you start, we prepared classes especially for you to phone grips with yarn used in practice, while doing yarn color tests making rugs.
After becoming familiar with tufting by filling in the wide area and straight lines, we will make a tray with curved lines and a round hole in the center. You will learn how to finish curved lines. You will also make a tray that can fix an accessory by learning advanced skills that create gaps with a higher level of finish than carving with scissors.
So, please try and challenge yourself with more diverse types of works!
Also, do not throw away the leftover pieces of yarn after finishing your work. You can use them to make magnets and coasters. You can add vivid expressions on the coaster as you prefer. We look forward to seeing your expressions in the class! :D
You will not easily find this coaching through other sources, but we can supply excellent kits with guaranteed quality.
For this class, we provide BCF yarn exclusively made for tufting by Analog Couple Workshop.
🧶BCF is a nylon processed yarn developed for carpets, which does not generate hair or lint, has excellent durability, and is resistant to contamination. In particular, compared to wool and acryl with lint occurring, this is definitely the most suitable yarn for making rugs.
You can use the dedicated framework designed for Class 101 to work more conveniently.
Tufting guns, which are the most important tool, are sent to you after completing inspection for safety at And-et. If there are any problems during use, we will also provide follow-up service. Tufting guns available in the market can be used in different conditions, and can break easily. Start your work safely with the tufting guns sent to you after checking by Analog Couple Workshop.
We have also carefully prepared the kits so that you can purchase only the items you want, according to your circumstances and needs. Choose the kit that is right for you from the four different kits: Light, Basic, All-in-one, and Deluxe.
Beginners can learn step-by-step, and experts can learn more in-depth.
We will start by giving you an understanding of the basics of tufting, and how it works with hand-operated looms. We will send you a frame with enough space so that you can practice before you start your work. Don’t worry about failing at first!
We will teach you three different types of finishing, so you can complete your tufting work in variety of ways that suit your needs.
- Phone grip: Hand overlock
- Coaster & magnet: Stitch
- Rug: Webbing tape
All of the above works are completed by offline students of And-et Workshop. I have met different students offline and learned what aspects they feel are the most difficult, what they want to learn, and how I must teach.
We will provide you with work order and various kinds of know-how, so that your tufting works can be done with a high level of completion.
Make your room a tufting workshop!
Why don’t you create works that you’ve only dreamed of?
The class doesn’t just end after completing these six tasks. We will give you various tips on working effectively, so that you can continue happily with your tufting work. These tips include how to maintain your tufting gun so that you can use it for a long time, easy repairs, and where to oil! We will also show you how to fix a torn fabric. Of course, we will also tell you how and where to purchase the tools and materials you need.
That dream to fill your life with the tufting accessories you made, will no longer be just a dream.
Through this class, your room will become a tufting workshop, and you will be able to create various tufting works yourself. I am very much looking forward to the tufting works that you and your classmates will make, and I look forward to helping you in the class.
